Cleaning Hot Tub Filters
Keeping your hot tub filters
clean will ensure you years of pleasure and relaxation from that great hot tub you’ve just invested in. If you
don’t keep your hot tub filters clean, it will eventually ruin the pump, and as everyone knows, that will include a
much bigger expense to made things right again. Proper maintenance from the beginning will make things easier
on you and your pocketbook!
Most experts recommend owning two hot tub filters and rotating
them. While you’re cleaning the dirty filter, you simply attach the clean one. Using this system, your hot tub
filters will last so much longer.
If you are manually cleaning your hot tub filters, they should
be rinsed every two weeks, more frequently if a lot of debris is building up. Here are some tips for manually
cleaning your hot tub filters so they will be working their best:
- Remove the cartridge from the filter housing. Follow the
instructions that came with the hot tub.
- Use a garden hose held at a 45-degree angle and spray the
water. Spray between the pleats and dislodge all the foreign debris.
- Continue rinsing until all the dirt has been
dislodged.
- At least every four months (and every time you change the
water) your hot tub filters should be soaked overnight according to the directions in the manual that came with
it.
- Rinse again and then allow the filter to completely dry
out. It’s now ready to be reinstalled when the current hot tub filter needs changed.
If you are automatically cleaning your hot tub filter (there
are many blasters on the market that will rotate the filter under water and clean the pleats), here are some
tips:
- Hook the blaster up to a garden hose.
- Put the hot tub filter on the unit and then turn on the
water. It really is that easy.
If your hot tub filters have a nasty scale build up, clean them
as recommended above and then soak them in a product that is recommended for hot tub filters. When the product
stops bubbling, the build up will be gone. One last tip: do not use bleach. It will weaken your hot tub filter and
decrease its life and effectiveness.
